Описание: Cartographer is an instrumental rock band from Tilburg, the Netherlands. The band’s sound is firmly rooted in heavier music genres. They draw inspiration from melodic and heavy bands that span decades of musical styles while trying to maintain a sense of wonder and diversity throughout their music. In the fall of 2014 their first full-length album ‘A SEA OF SUNSHINE’ was released and presented in front of a sold-out crowd. On ‘A SEA OF SUNSHINE’ the listener is taken by the hand, drowned in oceans of sonic waves and then left to dry in barren wastelands before being thrown head-first into solid walls of noise.

First formed in 2010 on the backs of various projects, Cartographer evolved into their final form in 2011. In the fall of 2012 they released their first self-titled EP which was inspired by the works of Dr. Kübler-Ross. Her model of the five stages of grief describes the various emotions a person experiences when faced with tragedy. Despite being instrumental the band has been applauded for accurately portraying these raw emotions while leaving room for personal interpretation and allowing the listener to project these emotions onto their own experiences.

Following the release of their EP the band has been invited to play several supporting shows for artists such as Karnivool, Anneke v. Giersbergen (ex-the Gathering), and Wisdom of Crowds (w/ Jonas Renkse from Katatonia and Bruce Soord from the Pineapple Thief). These shows have earned the band a modest but loyal group of enthusiasts.

The band quickly began work on a full-length album after finishing their EP and on the 26th of September ‘A SEA OF SUNSHINE’ was released. The album is a step forward for the band and is a fresh new start in many ways. It features songs that have naturally evolved over months of rehearsing and performing live. The songwriting is more focussed and more expansive than before. The overall theme is more positive and open than the EP­ and focuses more on leaving dark days behind you. Short verses are provided to help guide the audience and pull them deeper into the tangled structures that the music weaves.
Above all, the album showcases the musical growth the band has undergone. Cartographer allows themselves time to slowly build up tension, making the feeling of an inevitable climax even more daunting; A climax that, as in life, might not always turn out to be what you expect it to be.
